The Palestinian Legal System

The Palestinian legal framework amalgamates Sharia Law, Ottoman, British, Jordanian, Egyptian, and Israeli military law, along with the Palestinian Authority’s Basic Law. Additionally, Arabic Rights, blending traditional and historical legal elements, contribute to the legal system.

The aspects of the law depend on the specific area of Palestine one resides in; whether it be the Israeli-controlled regions of the West Bank and Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, or the area of the West Bank that is under the control of the Palestinian Authority.

Furthermore, each specific region of Palestine changed through its history and geography. The legal system of the Gaza Strip is significantly shaped by Egyptian law, whereas the West Bank’s legal framework is influenced by Jordanian law. This online course delves into law, human rights, politics, diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and interpersonal relations within Palestine.
