Salam (سلام), meaning “peace” in Arabic, is a common greeting in Arab countries. Salam Palestine is a community development project initiated by the Excellence Center/Engage in Palestine. Its goal is to foster peace in Palestine through various activities and services. These include education, culture, social programs, and community development. The project extends its services to Palestinian refugees, children, women, youth, and other Palestinian community members in and around Hebron, West Bank. We welcome international participants from around the world who volunteer, intern, or study Arabic in Palestine.

Salam Palestine is situated on Ein Sarah Street, just across from Al Hussein Mosque, right in the heart of Hebron, West Bank. Its convenient location makes it easily accessible for both international visitors and Palestinian participants.

Our Volunteer And Internship Programs

Salam Palestine offers volunteer and internship programs that mainly focus on the topics of human rights, Palestinian children, women’s rights, Journalism, teaching English, sport, medicine, Palestinian refugees, Palestinian culture and politics, Palestinian laws and legal system, and the political history and present situation of Palestine and Israel.

Our volunteer programs in Palestine are especially ideal for students and people who are looking for volunteer and internship programs in the summertime or year-round (spring, summer, fall, and winter) located in the area of the West Bank, Palestine, Israel, or the Middle East.

 

Our volunteer programs were developed for graduate and undergraduate students of Middle Eastern studies, Arabic studies, or political sciences, as well as professionals, employees of human rights organizations, scholars conducting case studies on Palestine and Israel, human aid workers, social workers, teachers, English native speakers, non-native speakers and anyone interested in engaging in Palestinian culture and daily life.

When Can You Join Us And For How Long?

Volunteers, interns, and Arabic students can join our programs from 1-13 weeks at anytime of the year (summer, winter, fall, and spring). We are flexible when it comes to starting and ending dates.

Study, Volunteer, Or Intern In the Summer

If you would like to join us in Summer, our offering is a little different because summer is when we are at our busiest and most full of life. For example, during Summer, we run special summer intensive Arabic immersion programs, which last for four weeks each and are taught in small groups, in various dialects, and at various proficiency levels, from total beginner to advanced.

Our summer programs are particularly ideal for university or college students wishing to study Arabic, volunteer or intern abroad during their summer break. Thanks to our partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Education, we can offer academic credit towards your studies whether you study Arabic, volunteer, or intern with us. If you are not a current student or are not seeking academic credit, you are still more than welcome to join us during the summer. The Palestinian Refugees Program

The Palestinian Refugees Volunteer/Internship Program provides a special chance for people of all ages, from students to retirees, who care deeply about human rights.

Participants work directly with Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank, focusing on improving skills and offering education to children, youth, and women in refugee camps near Hebron, Palestine.

 

Online Arabic Programs

Salam Palestine provides various online Arabic programs that include Levantine dialects (Ammiyya Arabic) from Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Modern Standard Arabic.

Enroll in our Intensive Online Arabic courses, where you’ll receive 20 hours of instruction per week. This format allows students to rapidly develop Arabic skills and finish a full 80-hour course in just four weeks.
